Meet Betty the Yeti: NVE Ware-House’s Most Mysterious Resident

If you’ve ever wandered through NVE Ware-House and felt like something was watching you from the corner of the room, you’re probably not imagining things.

Meet Betty the Yeti.

Betty has called NVE Ware-House home since 2019. Standing several feet tall, covered head to toe in shaggy white fur, and possessing a stare that can stop even the most seasoned treasure hunter in their tracks, Betty has become something of a local legend.

Like many legends, her origins remain a mystery.

Some say she arrived with a truckload of antiques from the Catskills. Others claim she emerged from a forgotten storage locker during a snowstorm. A few longtime vendors insist she’s been here much longer than 2019 and simply chooses when she’d like to be seen.

What we do know is this: Betty is generally friendly, enjoys meeting visitors, and has a surprisingly refined palate.

Her favorite food? Strawberries.

In fact, Betty loves strawberries so much that she rarely eats them neatly. If you’ve noticed the faint red stains in her fur, don’t worry—it’s not evidence of a dramatic encounter in the woods. It’s simply the result of an enthusiastic snack break.

Over the years, Betty has become an unofficial ambassador for the Ware-House. She’s posed for photos, startled unsuspecting shoppers, and stood watch over countless vintage treasures. Children are often fascinated by her. Adults tend to have one of two reactions: delight or mild panic.

Both are understandable.

When she’s not greeting visitors, Betty can usually be found quietly observing the daily activity of the shop. She has a particular interest in mid-century furniture, vintage holiday decorations, and anything featuring woodland creatures. She remains suspicious of inflatable lawn ornaments.

As for whether Betty is the last remaining yeti in the Hudson Valley, we couldn’t possibly say.

But if you happen to visit NVE Ware-House and spot a towering white figure out of the corner of your eye, be sure to say hello.

Just don’t bring blueberries.

She’s very particular about her fruit.
