“I picked this piece because I have been a Warhol fan for forever. Growing up in the 90s in New York, the eye-catching images and wild superstar coterie that inhabited his pop-art pieces spoke to me, and the appealing iconography of glossy consumer culture and celebrity really struck a chord with me. As a child, Andy was often sick, he suffered from St. Vitus’ Dance, so he missed a lot of school and spent time at home with his mother reading glossy magazines and watching television. I related to him as a lonely kid, so the idea of transforming a shy nobody into an artist of renown, that was seen at every A-list party, was magic to me. Warhol work is far out of my reach these days, but I still have a soft spot in my cold, dark heart for the king of pop (art).”
