Meet Grace, 12 Years of Collecting & Curating for NVE!

1. Give us the elevator pitch. Who are you, and what treasure-filled path led you to vintage?

Hi I’m Grace! I have had a booth at Newburgh Vintage Emporium since it opened 12 years ago, but I have always been an avid antique shopper. It all started with my mom; my mom was a great shopper and took me to antique stores and I developed a love for it. My love for antique shopping developed over time because my brother moved to Vermont, and we started antiquing up there. My specialty with antiques is that I paint good quality furniture and elevate the pieces with chalk paint and stencils. I have always been into fashion in general; I am a FIT graduate and worked in the Garment Center, and also at Woodbury commons.

2. If someone walked into your booth for the first time, what would they find—and what might surprise them?

If somebody walked into my booth they would find my beautiful painted furniture and my collection of vintage etched crystal wine glasses that I love. What might surprise them is that my booth is very eclectic. I love collecting Asian, Italian, and French pieces. People would be surprised by the quality of my pieces. I believe that vintage pieces are so much better than shopping at HomeGoods. I have real and beautiful porcelain items and demitasse cups, which are quality items you would not find at HomeGoods.

3. Describe your booth style in three words. (No pressure, but we’ll judge them.)

Eclectic and constantly changing.

4. What are you always hunting for when you’re out picking, thrifting, or treasure hunting?

I am always looking for interesting pieces. I don’t know what I’m looking for until I see it.  I am always hunting for a bunch of different things.

5. What is your current favorite piece in your booth?

My current favorite piece in my booth My favorite piece is the vintage mahogany 5-drawer dresser that I hand-painted on the gold decals with chalk paint and then applied a floral transfer on the front.

6. What’s one thing people often overlook when shopping vintage?

People often overlook the quality of the merchandise. People should be shopping for vintage because of the quality. This is the way and future of shopping.

7. If your booth had a theme song, what would it be?

Material Girl by Madonna.
